Description |
A software distribution solution that streams applications from a central server out to distributed PCs, where they install locally and execute using local resources.
An on-demand application streaming technology, streaming only the application functions that are required when they are needed.
At Launch
Upon initial launch, AppStream.NOW streams only the application startup block, enabling the user to launch the application and begin to work with it in seconds — much more quickly than solutions that require the entire application to be transferred and installed before it can be accessed.
During Use
While the application is in use, AppStreams on-demand application streaming technology responds instantly to an end users actual needs, transparently sending down additional application functions when the end user clicks on them. All streamed application functions persist across sessions. Because typical end users access only a fraction of an applications functions in normal use, bandwidth consumption is minimized — in most cases, AppStreams on-demand application streaming technology needs to stream less than ten percent of the application to support the end users needs.
Each time an end user launches an application, AppStream compares the local application with its server-side counterpart, seeking inconsistencies. Any discovered application updates are streamed to the user while the application is still in use — a targeted update process that focuses only on the parts of the application the end user actually needs. This process can be extended to periodically check for damaged blocks of code and automatically repair the application.
User Impact
To the end user, streamed applications behave identically to applications that are fully-installed by conventional means, without the necessary workflow required to facilitate a push install, and preventing the need to perform frequent application downloads, uninstalls or reinstalls.
To the administrator, the result is reduced network congestion, reduced server load, universal application access across all networks, ensured version consistency and guaranteed application updating.
AppStream.NOW is flexible and standards-based
The AppStream server communicates as a traditional web application, running over HTTP for on-demand software distribution.
AppStream supports the MSI application packaging standard.
AppStream works with traditional security solutions like SSL and VPN to provide secure access to internet facing desktops.
AppStream integrates with existing identity stores, such as Microsofts Active Directory and LDAP directories for user authentication and to leverage existing application provisioning information.
AppStream comes with an embedded database and can also work with any other major database. |
